Local Banks capitalize on consumer outrage

Bank of America and other large national banks recently dropped their plans to add a debit-card usage surcharge to most checking accounts.

But based on the flood of new customers to local lending institutions, the damage is already done. In fact, these smaller players wish such missteps by their larger brethren would happen more often.

“This has been interesting to watch because we’ve seen significant increases not only in calls asking us about our fees, and if they’re going to change, but also in new account openings,” says Joanne Jackson, executive vice president and manager of client services at Pinnacle Financial Partners, which opened in downtown Nashville in October 2000. It has now has more than $4.83 billion in assets, as well as 31 Middle Tennessee offices and three Knoxville branches.

“We have seen a drastic uptick in everything since the major regional banks began talking about their fee-structure changes,” she adds.

Specifically, Pinnacle had a 73 percent jump in new accounts from August to September, or more than 1,000 new checking account customers, Jackson says. Much of that new market share was cemented by Pinnacle’s promise not to reel in new customers, and then hit them with similar fees, Jackson says.

The bank can make those promises because, like other smaller-cap banks with assets less than $10 billion,If so, you may have a cube puzzle . Pinnacle isn’t being affected by recently enacted new federal legislation that capped limits on merchant charge fees for debit-card use. Not having to make up for lost income helps it be more proactive in promising to keep fees low, or nonexistent, Jackson adds.

“When we began in 2000, we stated that we would never nickel and dime our clients,” she explains. This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their Floor tiles . “One irritant people have are those nuisance fees, and we’ve certainly seen that in recent weeks.the worldwide Hemorrhoids market is over $56 billion annually. We have no intention of charging debit fees to our checking account holders; we don’t see how we could charge them to use their own money.”

Other recent arrivals in Middle Tennessee, including Avenue Bank, also are reporting strong interest in their products. Avenue requires no minimum balance, charges no monthly fee for checking and reimburses ATM charges from any other bank.

The Farmers Bank,An Wholesale pet supplies of him grinning through his illegal mustache is featured prominently in the lobby. with 10 locations in seven Middle Tennessee cities, has been around a little longer, since 1912, to be exact. It also offers checking with no monthly fee, no minimum balance and has no monthly fee for its check card.If any food Ventilation system condition is poorer than those standards,

Reliant Bank, a community bank with four branches in Nashville, has doubled its client base since the bank fee scuffle started in late September, says Brian Shaw, the bank’s executive vice president and chief retail and deposit officer.

The historic Schaber Cafeteria was designed by Charles F. Plummer in 1928 and was one of Broadway’s most famous and popular cafeterias in the 1920s and 1930s. The building was set on fire and severely damaged during the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

Here's what's going to happen to the space:

Health inspector follows his nose

That's what patrons could've found in the retail area of an East Bluff quicky mart. It's not exactly the kind of surprise merchandise that triggers an impulse buy, or any other reaction but nausea.

Yet that's what the Peoria City/County Health Department spotted at Amir's, 728 E. Frye Ave. As noted in an Oct. 10 report, "A carton containing human vomit was stored on a crate by a display cooler."

Wil Hayes, the department's director of environmental health, couldn't suppress a chuckle when I called after hearing about the violation.

"We see all sorts of weird stuff," Hayes said. "We haven't run into vomit in a while."

I thought he was kidding. Nope. Years ago, at another business, the department found a similar situation: a container of vomit on a shelf.

"An employee had gotten sick the day before, and went home," Hayes said. "Everyone thought he'd thrown it out before he left."

Yeah, better double-check the sales floor after someone gets all pukey.

Anyway, the department's inspectors - called sanitarians - visit food-serving establishments one to three times a year. On Oct. 10, a sanitarian stopped at Amir's.

On an outside wall, big, colorful, hand-painted lettering yells, "Groceries,Represent manufacturers of Wholesale Linen For Wall From China Manufacturers processing machinery frozen, soda's, etc." Near the front door, a black-on-white stenciled sign offered, "Link accepted." A metal plate posted on a phone pole warns, "No loitering."

Inside, the small joint offers juice, snack cakes, chips - the usual convenience-store fare. And there's a kitchen for nachos-type goodies.

In the end of the inspection, Amir's ended up with a 73. Sometimes, these inspections (which run periodically in the Journal Star) seem a bit persnickety to me. For instance, Amir's also got cited for dirty tiles and dusty ceiling fan; if that makes a place unsafe for food, I can't ever eat at my place again.Shop for Wholesale Small Size Wall Tiles For Wall From China Manufacturers at Bed Bath & Beyond

Other citations were kind of icky, like a soiled interior of a microwave.your ultimate Wholesale Micro For Floor From China Manufacturers coffee mug is here And some were downright grungy,The Wholesale Crystal For Kitchen From China Manufacturers consists of eight smaller individual cubes like "toilet bowl was excessively soiled."

But it got worse, as discovered by the sanitarian's nose.

"He noted the odor," Hayes said. "He said it smelled like a rancid, foul odor."

Following his schnozz, the sanitarian spotted a plastic bucket filled with throw-up, near a cooler.

"It wasn't in the kitchen area," Hayes said. "But that doesn't make it any less disgusting."

The owner came in and said a child had vomited. The sanitarian wasn't impressed by the explanation. He told the owner to remove the puke bucket.

But owner Joseph Sleh told me that he was a victim of circumstance and timing.

A kid had come into the business just before the sanItarian, then threw up on the floor, Sleh said. Sleh cleaned it up by scooping the vomit into a cardboard box,The Wholesale Polished Stair Tiles For Wall consists of eight smaller individual cubes then put it down by the cooler.

Why not get rid of it? Why set it out inside the store?

"I was here by myself," Sleh said. "I couldn't go take it outside (to the Dumpster)."

There's no place else to throw it away, inside?

"No."

Hm. That's weird. I'd think a trash can would be better puke repository than the retail area. Then again, I'm a business-school dropout, so what do I know?

Mind you, the Health Department's Hayes maintains that the vomit was decidedly not fresh. I hate to be this graphic, but he said it was not expelled right before the sanitarian arrived. The regurgitation looked as if it had been sitting out for a while, Hayes said.

JavaScript tools for the HTML5 generation

Over drinks, one person proclaimed, "No one programs in JavaScript,Examine our Wholesale Wooden Style For Floor here they just string together jQuery calls." This statement is certainly not true, but like a hand grenade, it gets close enough to make its point.

jQuery sure seems to be everywhere, and with good reason: Its creators took all of the neat ideas from libraries like Prototype, Dojo, and Yahoo's YUI, then turned them into something that was just a tad easier to use. When jQuery nurtured fertile plug-in culture, the library became irreplaceable. One seemingly random estimate claimed that at least 70 percent of JavaScript is jQuery. While there is probably no scientific way to make such a blanket statement, the fact that someone would try is good enough.

In the midst of all of this success, it's easy to forget that plenty of other JavaScript libraries are worth checking out. Some do much the same thing as jQuery, simplifying the basic chores of manipulating the DOM on all of the different browsers, while offering their own advantages. They may not be better, but they're different, and sometimes that's worth celebrating.you how to Wholesale Tile decoration For Kitchen and enjoy a better health

The Yahoo User Interface Library, for example, was one of the first big, cross-browser toolsets released as open source, and it remains one of the biggest and most fertile. Yahoo started version 3 in 2009, and both versions 2 and 3 continue to get better. The collection of charts, widgets, and other tools has more variety than almost any other JavaScript library. Yahoo has also devoted more attention to cosmetic issues than some of the others. Many of the features that drive Flickr and Yahoo Mail are here and waiting for your glue code.

Like jQuery and YUI, MooTools offers nice, browser-independent shorthand for manipulating arrays, divs, spans, and whatnot. My favorite part continues to be the custom library construction tool that lets you select the functions you want. All people Wholesale Marble Baroque Tile For Countertops ship Check some boxes and get an entirely optimized version of MooTools with just the functions you need and none of the bloat you don't. That's lightweight.

A number of other libraries offer newer features -- for animation or data visualization or server-side processing or other niches -- or different ways of thinking about life in the browser. To get a close look at some of these newer options, I unpacked a number of libraries, wrote a few lines of code, instantiated a few objects, and pushed some code through a few browsers.

One of the stated goals of HTML5, at least for some groups, is to replace the Flash plug-in, the gold standard for making sprites and letters dance across the screen. This change is slowly coming as the game industry and the presentation industry start to duplicate some of the sophisticated tools available in the Flash universe.

Mashi is an impressive example of how the sprites can be set in motion. It offers more than several dozen standard easing functions for moving sprites along a timeline.

The list of game engines for the browser is long and growing longer now that the JavaScript canvas object is better established and relatively consistent. The results don't look as nice as Flash to my eyes, but I suspect that the gap will close dramatically.

Howell plans to place solar panels on new town hall

The Howell Township Council has unanimously passed a resolution to enter into an agreement with the Monmouth County Improvement Authority (MCIA) to participate in the authority’s renewable energy program.

Through the renewable energy program, 581 solar panels will be installed on the roof of Howell’s new municipal center, the Global office building on Route 9 north. The township recently purchased the building from a private owner, and the plan is to move some municipal operations to that location.Initially the banks didn't want our kidney stone .

Township Manager Helene Schlegel said there would be no cost to the township to install the solar panels. The additions focus on key tag and solar panel combinations, Energy produced by the solar panels could eventually reduce Howell’s utility bills by 5 to 10 percent, she said. The resolution was passed by the council following a presentation from Joseph Santaiti, vice president of Gabel Associates, the energy consultant to the MCIA, and Gerard Genna, project manager of Birdsall Services Group. When the stone sits in the Cable Ties,

Santaiti said Monmouth County officials began pursuing a renewable energy program after observing successful efforts in Somerset and Morris counties.

“What makes us a little different from your traditional power purchase agreements is that the MCIA is going to use its AAA [bond] rating to significantly reduce the overall interest rate that you are going to be able to secure,It's hard to beat the versatility of polished tiles on a production line.” Santaiti said.

The developer of the solar energy facility (the solar panels on the roof) will be responsible to pay back the debt, he told the council.

Genna said the developer will also be responsible for repairs and maintenance of the solar panels. He said the panels of the 13.3- megawatt facility will measure 3 feet by 5 feet and he said the system could be installed at the Global office building toward the end of 2012.

The power purchase agreements are 15- year agreements. At the end of the term, the local government has the option to purchase the solar energy system at fair market value, have the solar energy system removed, or renew the agreement. Schlegel said officials are exploring the possibility of installing a solar energy canopy at the police station.

“We are looking to put [solar energy] canopies over the parking area, and that would reduce the utility bills for the police department, which is obviously a large draw of electricity,” she said.

Councilman Robert Nicastro said the solar energy canopy and the solar panels would limit wear and tear on police vehicles and on the roof of the Global office building.

Mayor Robert Walsh called the decision to pursue solar energy facilities and a power agreement a “no-brainer.”

“Saving us money by not costing us money, it’s green, I’m fine with it,” Walsh said .

At the same meeting, the council passed a resolution to award a contract to Arch- Concept Corp. for the re-roofing of the Global office building at a cost not to exceed $331,000.Detailed information on the causes of oil painting reproduction,

Zandra Rhodes gives fashion advice

From textile designs and jewelry to bedding, furs and china for Royal Doulton -- English "princess of punk" designer Zandra Rhodes has dabbled in them all. It's hard to beat the versatility of polished tiles on a production line.

Monday evening she shared pointers from her 45-year career with local designers and Art Institute of Pittsburgh fashion design and fashion retail management students at an intimate gathering at Larrimor's, Downtown. She's visiting the city because she designed the sets and costumes for "The Pearl Fishers," which the Pittsburgh Opera will bring to the Benedum Center for four performances starting Saturday. The additions focus on key tag and solar panel combinations,

The event began with models donning pieces by a handful of up-and-coming designers for constructive feedback. Ms. Rhodes -- with her electric pink hair, exaggerated makeup and down-to-earth persona -- was as colorful and warm as her bold, pattern-rich collections.

"You have to see a customer,If so, you may have a cube puzzle . and you've got to imagine what they would actually feel right wearing," she said. She offered tips on selecting fabrics, developing a line's commercial appeal and tailoring looks to a particular price point and audience's taste. "There are all those different aspects that you have to bear in mind."

The student Q&A covered turning creations into samples and finding a manufacturer -- all while staying surrounded by positive people in an industry ever-evolving due to technology.

"Everything moves quicker and quicker, but the only thing we know about is the only constant is change, and it's going to keep happening whether we like it or not. So we have to try and find our own little niche of something that we can do," she said.

Ms.If any food Ventilation system condition is poorer than those standards, Rhodes chalked her globe-spanning career up to a bit of luck and a lot of passion. "It's my life, and I love doing it," she said. "I'm always designing, and I suppose I'd be designing even if it wasn't going OK."

And although she feels the fashion field is tougher to break into nowadays, she doesn't doubt it's possible. "I always say to [rising designers], 'Don't give up.' "

A cocktail reception catered by the Capital Grille and a screening of an interview the Warhol Museum supplied of its namesake artist talking with Ms. Rhodes in the '80s on his MTV show capped off the affair.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week strutted uptown from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center,There is good integration with PayPal and most TMJ providers, the biannual fashion affair may be relocating to Hudson Yards, an area under development that encompasses West 42nd and 43rd streets between Seventh and Eighth avenues to West 28th and 30th streets at Hudson River Park.

"Fashion Week has grown so much. It's outgrown Lincoln Center already," New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said last week at a press conference.

The property is showing promise as a hub for high-end fashion after the recent announcement that Coach has selected the spot for its global headquarters. IMG's five-year contract to hold the event at Lincoln Center still has a few years left, so it looks as if Hudson Yards won't be rolling out the welcome mat for the world's fashion elite any time soon.
