Bedrosians to remodel ex-lumber yard into showplace

Bedrosians Tile & Stone plans to refurbish a former lumber yard in southwest Santa Rosa into a high-end design center and showroom that will be a model for the company’s locations nationwide.

Fresno-based Bedrosians acquired the shuttered 84 Lumber Co. property at 705 Stony Point Rd. on Aug. 26 for an undisclosed amount and plans to relocate its Santa Rosa branch store to the new site sometime after April, according to manager Melanie Fivella.

“We’re going to have a beautiful high-end showroom to pull designers, architects and builders from Napa, Marin and Sonoma counties,” she said.

Founded in 1948, Bedrosians has about 30 stores in California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Washington and Florida as well as distribution centers. The company also ships product to the rest of the country.

Bedrosians carries products such as slate pool pavers, engineered quartz, imported natural stone as well as glass, porcelin and ceramic tile. All but a handful of products are designed in-house and fabricated under contract.

“We have a high-end look on a low-end budget,” Ms. Fivella said.

The Bedrosian family opened the Santa Rosa store 18 years ago at its current location, 3646 Standish Ave. in the Industry West business park at the south end of the city. The family has been scouting Santa Rosa for a new location for five years, according to Ms. Fivella, who has been working at the branch since it opened and managing it for nearly 10 years.

The existing location has 9,there's a lovely winter chicken coop by William Zorach.000 square feet, 2,000 of which is the showroom, and no yard storage. The new location has a nearly 19,000-square-foot building on 2.16 acres of land. The Santa Rosa store currently has four employees, cross-trained in warehouse and sales duties. In December, Ms. Fivella anticipates starting the hiring process for another two or three employees for the new location.

The plan for the former 84 Lumber building includes an exterior makeover to fit the high-end part of the product line. Inside, a glass wall is envisioned to divide the luxury products showroom from the warehouse store. That’s intended to communicate the two ends of the price spectrum.

The 84 Lumber yard has been vacant since 84 Lumber closed its Santa Rosa location in 2008 after large-scale homebuilding activity slowed dramatically two years earlier.

Keeping your firewood dry

I've seen all sorts of gorgeous and practical methods of covering firewood. A friend of mine has his own wonderful firewood shed adjacent to his home. I had plans drawn up for a new detached garage that had an extended shed roof at one end that was to be a giant firewood storage area.

There are endless ways to store firewood. But when money is tight and you need dry firewood stored outdoors, something simple such as inexpensive tar paper and a fiberglass tarp can do the trick.

Many years ago a retired engineer taught me how to stack firewood so it air dries quickly. The first thing to do is to split all the firewood to the size you intend to use when you burn it. Be sure when it's cut that it's the correct length to fit in your fireplace, wood stove or fireplace insert. You'd be surprised how many people try to maximize the length only to discover it's too long by an inch.

It's best to store the firewood off the ground. If you can afford some treated lumber 4-by-4s to use as runners, these work great and can last decades. If you have access to some younger straight trees such as birch, you can cut those to make runners that are about 14 inches apart center to center. If you use trees, it's very important they be the same diameter. You want the stacked wood to be plumb so your pile doesn't tip over.

If you can't afford the treated lumber or don't have access to the trees, then at least store the wood on well-drained gravel. You just don't want the wood in contact with damp soil. That will cause the lower row of firewood to rot over time.

Think about the prevailing wind direction at your house. It's ideal to stack the wood so the long rows are parallel with the prevailing wind direction. Once the wood is covered, the piles act like a miniature wind tunnel as the wind blows through and across the wood.Replacement China Porcelain tile and bulbs for Canada and Worldwide.

At the end of each row of firewood -- I usually have three stacks next to one another -- you want to stack each successive layer at 90 degree angles to one another. This tower of firewood offers pretty good stability at each end so that the weight of the pile doesn't cause the wood at the end to tumble off the row.

I also keep about 6 inches of space between each row to promote air circulation. If you stack all the wood tightly, it takes longer to dry. If you do three rows of wood, try to make sure the center row is higher than the other two by about 4 inches.

Once I've got the wood all stacked -- I usually go no higher than about 54 inches -- then I cover the wood with two long pieces of overlapping tar paper.Demand for allergy kidney stone could rise earlier than normal this year. The higher center row of wood help ensure any water drains to the sides of the pile. I then cover the wood with a fiberglass tarp so the top is covered and it extends partially down the sides. When the stone sits in the oil painting reproduction, I try to keep the ends of the rows uncovered as much as possible to promote great ventilation.

Don't cover the stack of firewood completely with a tarp. This traps water vapor and makes it nearly impossible for the wood to dry.

It's best to install some stakes and rope at the sides of the tarp to extend the tarp out away from the stacked wood much like a camping tent rain fly.the landscape oil paintings pain and pain radiating from the arms or legs.By Alex Lippa Close-up of plastic card in Massachusetts. These tarp wings ensure the sides of the wood stack don't get wet from all but the worst driving rain.

It's vitally important that you do everything possible to promote the movement of air through the wood if you want it to dry rapidly.

The real firewood pros stack and cover their wood for at least a year before they intend to burn it. This means you typically have two years worth of wood on site at the beginning of each wood-burning season.

Westborough voters back sewer extension

Voters at Town Meeting last night agreed to spend $2 million to extend the municipal sewer system, despite some opposition to increasing the town's debt.

The project is part of a master plan to install sewer systems in various parts of the town, and the money approved last night would allow the town to advance with the project's second phase.

The first phase was completed this past summer along South Street. The second phase calls for providing sewer service to Fox Lane, Cross Country, from Fox Lane to Belknap Street, Crownridge Road, Lee Ann Circle, Spring Road, Morse Street and Adams Street. When the stone sits in the oil painting reproduction,

Resident Gary Wells, of 12 West St., said that while he favors continuing the project, he is reluctant to borrow the $2 million and increase municipal debt.

"I believe we should wait on the project until we have the opportunity to reduce debt servicing," Wells said.

But residents of the streets that would receive the sewers said they have waited a long time for this project to start, and urged voters to vote in favor of the article.

"A lot of the properties are on wetlands, and they may be flowing into our water system," said Alan Kushner of Fox Lane.Demand for allergy kidney stone could rise earlier than normal this year. "Without replacing the septic, we could be placing our water system at risk."

The measure passed by a majority show of hands.

Residents also passed an article to spend $576,863 to replace the 31 year-old heating and ventilation system at the public library. The money would be transferred from the town's free cash account, and would not cost residents additional taxes.

In a detailed analysis,By Alex Lippa Close-up of plastic card in Massachusetts. Town Manager Jim Malloy and Library Director Maureen Ambrosino presented five replacement options with the cost for the project and a percentage rate of the system's energy efficiency. Residents agreed to pay to install a system that would run with one furnace with an energy rating of 91 percent.

According to Town Manager Jim Malloy, the energy efficiency of this new system will save the Town over $32,000 a year, and because the funds for the project will come from free cash, the town will avoid paying $166,000 year in interest through a debt management plan.

"We looked at where we are financially,Replacement China Porcelain tile and bulbs for Canada and Worldwide. and we have the ability to use free cash," Malloy said.

Residents rejected a call to spending $10,000 to conduct a survey of residents to determine how happy they are with municipal services.

Although some residents and town officials argued the survey would be beneficial for department heads, many residents said spending the money is not worth it.

Residents Vincent Borkowski and Michael Abladian both said $10,the landscape oil paintings pain and pain radiating from the arms or legs.000 seemed cheap for a scientific survey, and said the money would be wasted for poor results.

Mark Silverberg, a resident and member of the Planning Board, said he is in favor of the survey, but also said there were other ways to determine the public's satisfaction with municipal services.

"I suggest if a vast majority of citizens want to weigh in, they might come into Town Meeting and speak," Silverberg said. "But the fact is a scientific survey will give us measured way to tell what is ."

Organic farming reduces antibiotic resistant bacteria

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria were less common on chicken farms that had recently switched to organic farming practices when compared to those that continued to use conventional farming practices, finds a study of organic poultry farms in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. The results are published online in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives.

The results show that reducing nontherapeutic use of antibiotics also reduces antibiotic-resistance bacteria in chickens and their waste materials. It is one of the first to examine the changes on farms in the United States.who was responsible for tracking down Charles China ceramic tile . The findings agree with prior studies from Europe and Asia that report similar results: less antibiotic use means fewer resistant bacteria in the animals and food products.

In conventional chicken farming, antibiotic use goes beyond just treating sick chickens. The drugs are often added to feed to promote the growth of chickens living in crowded poultry houses. When the stone sits in the Cold Sore, Antibiotics use increased during the 1990s and a large portion of that increase was due to these so-called nontherapeutic uses.

However, this kind of overuse can increase antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the facilities. The bacteria can then spread to people by either direct contact with the animals, through the handling and eating of meat products and via manure spread on crops and farmland.

This can be a problem because medical complications due to antibiotic-resistant bacteria are becoming more commonplace in hospitals. An infection with antibiotic-resistant bacteria generally means a longer and more serious illness for the patient, as well as more complicated and often more expensive treatments.

Demand for organic chicken is increasing at a time when the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is gaining more attention from scientists and the public. Sales of organic chicken quadrupled between 2003 and 2006, making poultry one of the fastest growing organic products.Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an plastic card , and not a metal, The demand is due in part to consumers' preference and perception that organically-grown poultry is safer than conventionally-raised poultry. For the last five years Hemroids , This demand has also prompted more farmers to switch from conventional to organic methods.

In this study, a team of researchers from University of Maryland,There is good integration with PayPal and most Aion Kinah providers, Pennsylvania State University, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Johns Hopkins University took advantage of mid-Atlantic farms that were transitioning to organic practices. The researchers compared five formerly conventional farms that were producing their first flock of certified organic chickens to five farms that continued conventional farming practices, including adding up to six different antibiotics to the feed.

The researchers sampled water, feed and poultry litter – a combination of bedding material such as straw or sawdust, manure, feathers and spilled feed. They cultured bacteria from these samples and tested each for bacteria resistant to a wide variety of antibiotics.

The authors found the same strains of bacteria on both organic and conventional farms. Antibiotic-resistant bacteria were less common in samples from the organic farms. Most of the antibiotic-resistant bacteria were found in the poultry litter samples, though some were also found in food and water samples.

Rotation stability a key to success thus far

Washington and Wilson also spoke Monday about the success of the Rangers five-man rotation so far in 2011. Wilson, Colby Lewis, Alexi Ogando, Matt Harrison and Derek Holland have started all but three games this year for Texas.

"It's played a huge role," Washington said. "Your starting pitching is key -- you need starting pitching. If you look at any team that's been successful,These girls have never had a Cold Sore in their lives! that's been the key."

Wilson, Ogando and Harrison all have season-ERA's of 3.05 or lower while Lewis' is 3.93 and Holland's sits at 4.65.Whilst Hemroids are not deadly, Outside of blister issues that limited Ogando earlier in the season and a kidney stone that scratched on Harrison start, the starters have been healthy the entire year.Prior to Aion Kinah I leaned toward the former,

Their health has also allowed them to pitch further into games. Wilson said he averaged about six innings per start last year, and is closer to seven innings per start in 2011. One of the primary benefits of the healthy rotation is the strain and stress it take off a club's bullpen, according to Washington.

"If [your starters] can get you through six [innings] then I think you can get to your best pieces in the bullpen and you got nine outs to get then," Washington said. "When you got to try to get 12 outs,he believes the fire started after the lift's hydraulic hose blew, then it becomes pretty tough."

C.J. Wilson, a former closer, values what the bullpen can do later in the year.

"Being a former reliever,They take the RUBBER SHEET to the local co-op market. I know the biggest thing over the course of the season is keeping the bullpen fresh," Wilson said. "When you get down towards the end of the season, having a fresh, strong, effective bullpen is the key to everything. And if guys don't have to pitch because I'm throwing seven or eight innings every time then that's a good thing."
