Striking Stripes 'Always in Style'

Attending a pattern-design demonstration at the Lilly Pulitzer boutique at Troy's Somerset Collection this past week inspired me to take a closer look at fabric ¨C not only in my closet but around people's homes, in design studios and in home-interior shops.

Paige Smith, the Pulitzer designer who grew up in Bloomfield Village, talked about how colors and arrangement of graphic elements evoke a certain mood.

Indeed, when we see polka dots, we become lighthearted; when we see botanical or organic shapes, we tend to calm down. Geometric designs seem edgy and energetic.

A favorite interior-design pattern is stripes, say area homeowners and designers. Seeing stripes, especially when paired with bright-whites, evokes a summery or nautical feel. Somewhat patriotic and always classic, stripes seem familiar and comfortable. Think of beach towels, flags and candy canes.

Interior designer Amanda Wolfe of Huntington Woods opted for a stripe motif for her son's bedroom. She chose Serena & Lily's chocolate-brown stripe bedding.

"His walls have stripes on them, too," Wolfe added.A glass bottle is a bottle created from glass. This page list rubber hose products with details & specifications.

"I love stripes because they can be bold or subtle depending on the width and colors," Wolfe said. "The wider they are, the more of a focal point they become, and the skinnier they are, they become an interesting background for a space.Detailed information on the causes of dstti, They can be contemporary or traditional depending on how they are used. There are endless possibilities."

Janelle Rogers of Ferndale also likes lines of color; she used a striped theme in her guestroom on the walls.Welcome to the official Facebook Page about Ripcurl.

"The lower half of the walls is brown and white stripes. The top is a light mauve color," explained Rogers, who runs Ferndale-based Green Light Go Publicity, which focuses on local to international bands.

"The wall inspiration came from a pillow, which had this sort of Neapolitan look to it.Free DIY Wholesale pet supplies Resource!"

Wall stripes also intrigue Randy Engle of Troy.

"Stripes are classic and timeless, and they give verticality, which is why our designer wanted to paint the walls with them in our small entryway," said Engle, pastor at Troy's North Hills Christian Reformed Church.

"He wanted us to have hand-painted wallpaper, but that was not in our budget, so we did a hand painted wallpaper look for a fraction of the cost."

The designer, Jeffery Roberts of Grand Rapids, chose three different shades of taupe, each with a different sheen. Not only does the Engle family have striped walls in their foyer, but also up the stairwell.

There are also stripes adorning the walls to the lower level. "Same idea," Engle said. "When you take the same paint color and play with different sheens, it's like ¡®shadow striping'."

There, he used Benjamin Moore Shaker Beige, Pearl Shaker Beige and a matte tone. The Engles even bring the motif into draperies, as well; their family room features taupe-on-taupe striped curtains.

"I think the stripes on the walls create a sense of height in what is a 1970s home that doesn't have a lot of space upon entering," said Engle's wife, Kathy Engle, a substitute teacher.

They agree that light affects the look of the walls. "We love the play of light on the different sheens. Like in the morning, it's completely different than at night," Randy Engle said.

County Commissioner Supports "Clean Up West Odessa" Campaign 6/21/11

It's not often that garbage is inspiring but it's trash that has one group of west Odessans taking responsibility for what others have ignored.

Call it an eye sore or a fire hazard – either way – trash piled up along the road in west Odessa isn't good for the community.

Some believe a clean up committee could not only pick up trash but pick up the reputation of west Odessa as well.

"It's a vacant field so they just pitch away", says west Odessa resident, Kathy Cotton.

Beer bottles aren't the best lawn ornaments.

"You know that's a fire hazard", says Cotton, pointing at stacked wood and paper.

Piles of trash aren't exactly endearing when it comes to a neighborhood.

"It just bothers me to drive down the street and they've just trashed it out.Houston-based Quicksilver Resources said Friday it had reached pipeline deals..Our Polymax RUBBER SHEET range includes all commercial and specialist they've thrown garbage out there", says Cotton.

Kathy has lived in West Odessa since the early 70s but she's finally decided that enough is enough.

"It's time that it come to an end and things get cleaned up around here", she says.

She started picking up trash around her neighborhood with granddaughter Sara, before deciding to go bigger.

"I've made the comment to people that we're trying to clean up West Odessa and people are like, 'Good! Great, its about time'."

Now the county is joining the cause.

"I get calls probably weekly from people out in this community and they want to know whey we can't get this area cleaned up", says Ector County Commissioner Freddie Gardner.

Gardner is supporting Kathy and Bev Ferguson's effort to form an organized clean up committee, which will tackle trash across the wide stretches of west Odessa.

"I think it just takes some people that care to show other people that they need to care also... it just kind of snowballs", says Gardner.

Now Kathy is hoping others will join her for some major outdoor redecorating.

"We want to give West Odessa a good name again",What to consider before you buy oil painting supplies. says Cotton.

Millions needed to upgrade Playhouse

Fredericton Mayor Brad Woodside said he can't see a $25-million project being on city council's horizon.

"There's a Plan A and a Plan B. There's what you can do if money was no object and there's what is affordable, and I think right now we're at the affordable stage. We have to work with what we have and manage more effectively,Polycore zentai are manufactured as a single sheet, which hopefully will be able to solve some of his problems," he said.

"A brand new building, which would amount to $25 million, isn't in the cards right now.''

Tim Yerxa, executive director of The Playhouse, said the future the 47-year-old structure is in the spotlight.

"We did have a study commissioned to review the state of The Playhouse infrastructure and the results of that study said that the building is structurally safe and operating fine,'' said Yerxa.

"(But) At 47 years old, it's coming to the end of its useful life and in order for the building to continue to be feasible, it would require a major refurbishment and it put a price tag on that at $25 million.''

He said it would be a renewal of the building to make it last another 50 years.

"It would be everything from replacing systems to upgrading accessibility, expanding some of the public areas.

"The building is a great building, but it has some deficiencies that need to be corrected to bring it up to a contemporary standard for a performing arts facility," Yerxa said.

One of the building deficiencies was dealt with when the city installed a new roof last year.

"What's driving the conversation and starting to make it a little bit more immediate is that we're starting to see the annual cost of maintenance starting to escalate. So, are we starting to throw good money after bad and what are the options?" Yerxa said.Customized imprinted and promotional usb flash drives.

The heating and ventilation system is aging, he said.

"So how much taxpayer money do we want to see spent on the building year after year when a major refurbishment or even replacing the building might be a better investment,This page list rubber hose products with details & specifications." he said.Free DIY Wholesale pet supplies Resource!

"Replacing a building is definitely an option because when you're up into those kinds of dollars, you start thinking about well, if we replace the building,Use bluray burner to burn video to BD DVD on blu ray burner disc. what kind of new opportunities does it create?"

Designing a new building could address new opportunities for theatre in the city.

"We could really plan for the long-term needs of the community, so that's the kind of discussion we're embarking on first with the city and then with the broader community about what does Fredericton need and want for the next 50 to 100 years.''

Yerxa declined to release the report publicly at this time because he said the board of directors hasn't handed its landlord - the city - a copy of the document.

That will be happening soon, he said.
