Sony's Plump Tablet Ditches Skinny IPad Look: Rich Jaroslovsky

Sony Corp.'s new Tablet S captures much of what's good and much of what's frustrating about the one-time king of consumer electronics.

Not content to stamp out just another cookie-cutter iPad clone, Sony has come up with a distinctive design. The tablet also incorporates ties to the company's vast collection of content, including movies and music. It even runs PlayStation games.

Yet, as with so many things Sony these days, the Tablet S sounds much more appealing than the reality turns out to be: Its good ideas are undermined by its execution.

The Tablet S, currently available for order and in stores next week, runs the "Honeycomb" operating system, Google Inc.'s tablet-optimized version of its Android mobile-device software. At $500 for a 16-gigabyte,A custom-made Cable Ties is then fixed over the gums. Wi-Fi-only model and $600 for 32 gigabytes, it's priced the same as Apple Inc.'s iPad 2 and Samsung Electronics Co.'s Galaxy Tab 10.Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an plastic card , and not a metal,1, the best of the current crop of Android tablets.

The Sony's 9.4-inch screen is just a bit smaller than the iPad's,Save on kidney stone and fittings, and, at approximately 1.3 pounds, the Tablet S is actually a touch lighter: 598 grams, versus 601 grams for the iPad. There's no mistaking it, though, for an iPad, a Galaxy Tab or any of the legions of other Honeycomb tablets cramming the aisles at Best Buy.

Leaving to others the competition to produce the thinnest, flattest device, Sony has created a sort of rounded-wedge case for the Tablet S. The metaphor is a folded-over magazine, with the teardrop-shaped thick side acting to prop the device up slightly when laid horizontally for typing or to watch a movie.

The shape takes some getting used to. It felt quite natural when I was holding it vertically, particularly if I was reading a book or online magazine. In landscape mode, though, I initially had a hard time. If the thin side was down, the thick part tended to dip. I eventually came to prefer holding it with the thick edge down -- opposite the way I positioned it when I wanted to tap out an e-mail.

Ultimately, I didn't mind the shape and even give Sony extra credit for trying to, as Apple used to exhort us, "think different." My real problem isn't what they did, but how they did it.

Achieving its light weight,The additions focus on key tag and TMJ combinations, for example, means a case that feels cheap and plasticky on the sides and back. The on-off switch and volume controls are poorly placed along an inside edge. Plugging in the charger is difficult: You have to align its protruding tabs just so, and I kept accidentally yanking the cable out when I picked up the device or tried to use it while charging. And the pull-out door covering the micro USB port and SD card slot feels like it's just waiting to break off.

The brain of the Tablet S is Nvidia Corp.'s Tegra 2 dual- core processor, the same chip that powers the Galaxy Tab. Yet the pre-production unit I was testing felt appreciably more sluggish than the Galaxy when scrolling through windows or launching applications. Our oil painting reproduction was down for about an hour and a half,

Like the Galaxy, it has Flash -- as in the Adobe Systems Inc. software for viewing many Web videos and animations. But it has no flash -- as in a light for its rear-facing camera when you shoot stills or video. (There's a front-facing camera as well, for video chatting.) I was easily able to get a full day's use from the Tablet S battery, but at 8 hours, it isn't quite up to the iPad 2's 10.

For your protection: get a home inspection

What's all the fuss about home inspections? For starters, it's the opening statement the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Federal Housing Administration, (FHA) makes before any documents will be considered when purchasing a HUD home or considering financing with FHA. What does HUD say about obtaining a home inspection? Let's quote. When the stone sits in the kidney stone,

Why a buyer needs a home inspection. A home inspection gives the buyer more detailed information about the overall condition of the home prior to purchase. In a home inspection,Free DIY Wholesale pet supplies Resource! a qualified inspector takes an in-depth, unbiased look at your potential new home to:

Evaluate the physical condition: structure, construction, and mechanical systems;

Identify items that need to be repaired or replaced; and

Estimate the remaining useful life of the major systems, equipment, structure, and finishes.

HUD continues on by telling us home inspections are not appraisals. Appraisals are for lenders, inspections are for buyers. Inspections evaluate, identify, and estimate. Appraisals estimate the market value of a house. Why would we want this information? So we can make an informed decision. The best surprise is no surprise, especially after we have closed on the sale and moved in.

What are some examples of structural issues we should inspect and consider? Obviously the foundation. Is it on a slab or on a crawl space with foundation walls? Is there settling or cracking? Are the floors properly supported or sagging with warped or rotten boards? Does the roof leak? What is the remaining life of the roofing shingles? Are there cracks in the walls or ceilings which appear excessive? Will the doors open and close without pushing and pulling? Are there broken windows? What about breaker panels and wiring; are there GFI outlets in the kitchen and bath. Are electrical outlets of the grounded type or not? It may make a difference if you need a grounded outlet for electrical components like stereo, computer and TV. Has the home been tested for termites? Is there active infestation? If so, repair the damage and kill the bugs.

How about mechanical systems.is the 'solar panel revolution' upon us? With this heat and humidity you probably are thinking about air conditioning, an important component of the HVAC system. We also offer customized chicken coop. How old is it? Does it perform to factory specifications? Can it be easily accessed? Has it been maintained? Think about the water heater. Is it leaking, is there rust? Is it adequate enough in gallons to serve your family needs? Is it vented to the exterior of the home, and is there a pressure regulator? Is there a water pressure regulator on the incoming water line to keep pressure from spiking and causing problems? Do the appliances work as intended?

Environmental issues. If the home was constructed prior to 1978, there is the potential for lead-based paint. Is there moisture in the crawl space or basement? This can lead to the growth of mold. Is there adequate air flow and ventilation in the crawl space? If on a septic system, is it working? Are all systems, showers, baths, sinks, washers hooked up to the system? With public water throughout the county, the testing of well water isn't what it once was. But if there is an operating well, test the water. Your city's environmental department can perform that test with relative ease. HUD recommends a radon test; however, that has not been an issue in our region.

So, who is going to perform all these inspections? Not Uncle Fred or a guy you know. Get a licensed home inspector who will issue a written,A glass bottle is a bottle created from glass. documented report on each area of the home. A licensed contractor can perform inspections within his or her area of expertise and report back.

In closing, HUD says "Be an Informed Buyer" I say that, too!

Headstash On The Road: Electric Forest Day 3

The sun finally decided to come out and stay out on day three of Electric Forest, prompting lots of activity around the festival grounds.Full color plastic card printing and manufacturing services. With the addition of the many attendees who bough weekend passes, it started to get pretty crowded in Rothbury, MI.

The first big performance of the day was a late addition to the lineup, Keller Williams. This daytime set was perfect ¨C the weather was beautiful and everyone came out of his or her campsites to play.

It's always fun to see Keller during the day ¨C his songs are light and silly, making for a goofy afternoon. In the crowd during his set, there were hoopers galore, people walking around on stilts, a couple giant puppets dancing their way across the field and giant Wayne Coyne-style beach balls bouncing over the crowd.

Highlights of his set included "Uncle Disney," a song Keller put out with The Keels, a long, jammed-out "Kidney in a Cooler" that had a "Deep Elem Blues" tease in it and his final song, "Positive Reggae," which had half the crowd lighting up.A glass bottle is a bottle created from glass.

Just like many of the artists at Electric Forest, Keller strayed at times from his typical style, making his bass more electronic and echoing it out over the crowd.

Later in the afternoon, 80s rockers REO Speedwagon put on their "Saturday afternoon special" to warm up the crowd for String Cheese. At the same time, Lettuce was getting funky at Sherwood Court.

The show wasn't as packed as it could have been because of the conflict, and festivalgoers were so confused by their appearance on the bill that they had to check the aging band out.

However, that didn't stop Lettuce from throwing a wild dance party. When the stone sits in the kidney stone,

Post Cheese,From standard Cable Ties to advanced wire tires, Big Gigantic began the late-night electronic dance party. Saturday night would prove to be an all-star event.Free DIY Wholesale pet supplies Resource! In addition to the sax-drums Colorado duo, Bassnectar, Shpongle and Skrillex threw battling dub dance parties.

Midway through Big G, the much-anticipated Bassnectar claimed the Ranch Arena as his own. Bassnectar's crowd was packed, but his set deviated from his normal womp-fest. It seemed as if, like so many other artists, he was catering to the crowd and wanted to play some of his more accessible material.

Sure, there was a lot of bass in there, but it wasn't the overkill that his sets can sometimes feel like. One of the highlights was a remix of The Cataracs and Dev's "Bass Down Low" that instantly made the crowd get closer to the ground.

Shpongle continued the electronic evening with his trippy presentation of the Shpongletron. A 3-D face with projections of eyes and crazy designs decorated the middle of his three-tier stage making his show a true spectacle. His beats are a different type of funkier electro and make for some super-fun dancing. Highlights included the opener, "Divine Moments of Truth," "Shpongleyes" and "My Head Feels Like a Frisbee."

Closing out the night on the smaller Tripolee Stage was up-and-coming dubstep master Skrillex. By the end of his set, the field was completely packed as he continued to get everyone riled up ¨C which then led to various dubstep blaring stations throughout the campsites for early morning after after-partying.

At one point during the set, Skrillex managed to get a significant portion of the crowd to put girls up on their shoulders and dance.

Saturday really defined the festival, displaying the two very different groups of people that made of Electric Forest 2011: the dubsteppers and the jam banders. At all points during the festival, there is someone playing that caters to theses two groups.

It's also interesting how all of the artists have been catering to the crowd. All of the speculation about the varied lineup of Electric Forest seems to have made the artists adjust their playing slightly, making for very unique and, ultimately, awesome shows.
