Some confusion remains as to what items can and cannot be recycled at the City of Taylor's Recycling Center, officials said.
Taylor Public Works Director Danny Thomas said some of the confusion could be due to people being accustomed to separating out the various types of recyclable material paper, aluminum, glass, plastic bottles and other types of materials.
But that's not necessary for a single-stream recycling center and that's where he believes the confusion lies.

The recycling center, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for drop-off, opened in April, replacing the old recycling center at the city's public works yard that was open on Saturdays.
The new center, at 1606 N. Main St., features single-stream recycling bins in which residents can place anything recyclable. A separate paper retriever bin is available as well, but paper may still be placed in the single-stream bin from IESI,When the stone sits in the kidney stone, the company that picks up trash in the city.

Items that may be recycled include cardboard, paperboard, paper, magazines, phone books, rigid plastics, all colors of glass, empty aluminum and tin cans, empty aerosol cans and metal lids from jars.
Items that may not be recycled include any type of plastic bag, such as grocery and dry cleaning bags, styrofoam, pet food bags,An Insulator, also called a dielectric, pizza boxes or frozen food bags, window glass, light bulbs, mirrors, batteries and household hazardous waste products.
Thomas said various other non-recyclable items from car tires to furniture to household appliances to construction materials have been left at the recycling center in the past, but publicity and the large sign on the right side of the entrance to the center have helped.
"The knowledge of what is and what is not recyclable is getting out there," Thomas said. "¡ Overall, we've definitely come a long way."
He said items such as car tires or batteries can still be picked up through IESI. He asked that people call city hall if they have any questions on what is recyclable and what is not.
"They can always call my office and I'd be more than happy to explain to them the dos and don'ts of recycling," Thomas said.
Meanwhile, the city's efforts to start a subscription-based curbside recycling center have fallen short, said Jean Johnson, public information officer. They failed to garner the necessary number of subscribers to start, she said.
"We didn't get the 600 subscribers, so we will not be offering that service at this time," Johnson said, noting that 168 households had signed up.is the 'solar panel revolution' upon us? "We encourage those who are interested to use the recycling center."
