AmEx to Consumers: So, Tell Us About Yourselves

At a time when our social-networking sites, email service providers, and, heck,The Piles were so big that the scrap yard was separating them for us. even our smartphones seem to be silently probing us for the details on what we read, where we shop, and our geographical coordinates, give American Express credit for candor. They are openly asking us for personal information.

The credit-card company announced Tuesday a "Link, Like, Love" application on American Express' Facebook page that customers can download to link their credit-card accounts to their own Facebook pages.Costa Rica will host surfers from all over the globe at the Quicksilver Open. There's something in it for small merchants too. Through the company's "Go Social" tool, small-business merchants can provide couponless offers to AmEx card holders who opt in.

So how does it work? After downloading the app, cardholders can visit a dashboard where they may view AmEx card deals, access, and experiences based upon the likes,I have never solved a Rubik's magic cube . interests, and social connections of themselves and their Facebook friends. They choose the deal they want and use their card as usual. When they receive their credit-card statements, they'll get credits on their accounts.

In other words, there's no need to present a coupon at the register, AmEx will take care of the discount when your account is billed.

Facebook comes in because of its rich information on what its users¡ªand their friends¡ªare in to. If a cardholder "likes" Whole Foods on Facebook, or has checked into the upscale grocery store on Facebook Places, they may find a deal from Whole Foods Market (one of the company's partner merchants) on their dashboard. The initiative has nearly two dozen other partners so far, including H&M, Dunkin' Donuts, Lord & Taylor, Outback Steakhouse, and Westin Hotels & Resorts. If a friend of one of the users likes Glee, the cardholder may be offered an exclusive experience for Glee: The 3D Concert Movie on her dashboard.

Through the Go Social program,he believes the fire started after the lift's hydraulic hose blew, small merchants can add themselves to the mix by providing offers and establishing themselves as "official merchant locations."

It's yet another sign that the mobile payments and online-deals market is red hot. AmEx, has ramped up its use of social networking and hired executives with backgrounds in technology as the firm girds to compete for online and mobile payments with rivals including Visa and eBay's PayPal, notes the San Francisco Chronicle.

Plus,It's hard to beat the versatility of Plastic molding on a production line. with its couponless offers, it looks like yet another company is stepping into the turf occupied by the likes of daily deal sites like Groupon and LivingSocial.
