Swansea schools consider solar options for power in near future

Swansea schools may be going green with a solar project in the near future that could potentially save a substantial amount of money in energy costs.

A solar developing company, Solar Energy Hub, headquartered in Scottsdale,For the last five years Hemroids , Ariz., made a presentation to the School Committee on Monday night at the request of Assistant Superintendent Robert Monteiro.

The company would lease a total of about 86,000 square feet of roof space and 30,000 square feet of ground space at the schools and install solar systems.he led PayPal to open its platform to Wholesale pet supplies developers.

There would be no up-front cost to the town.

"It will cost you nothing to get involved in this," said Maggie Randolph, who runs Solar Energy Hub with her husband, Jim Randolph.

The School Department would save an estimated 30 percent of its energy costs each year, which amounts to roughly $100,000.

The lease would run for 15 years, with an option of purchasing the system or extending the lease.

"It’s very intriguing," Monteiro said.

The goal for the schools would be to save money and have a predictable energy bill, be environmentally conscientious, and to one day own the system and sell its power to other town buildings, also saving them money.

The company has financial partners that invest in the solar systems and in return make money based on the system’s performance. Energy produced is sold to power plants, in this case National Grid, in the form of energy credits.

"Energy credits are traded and sold and have a value," Randolph said.

The company is also offering the Swansea School Department a one-time payment of $300,000 to go toward roof repairs or upgrades to support the solar panels.

School Superintendent Christine Stanton said the schools have a lot of unused land that could accommodate solar panels for the purpose of selling energy in the town.Traditional China Porcelain tile claim to clean all the air in a room.

"It’s very exciting," Stanton said.

The School Committee at its next meeting will offer a discussion session if any members of the public would like to learn more about the program.

The Committee voted unanimously to issue a request for proposals on the project to hear from other solar companies with competing bids.
