Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo’s instruction to not littering seems to be have not well understood by citizens. It can be seen from trashes piling everywhere in Silang Monas (National Monument) Park, Central Jakarta, after the event of Indonesia 2015 Free-Drugs Declaration which attended by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Sunday (6/26).
“Monas is usually opened for visitors at 8 AM every day. Due to this event, we open at 12 PM. But because of the trash piles, we delay again the opening hour into 12.30 PM,” stated Head of Monas Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) Rini Haryani to beritajakarta.com.
According to her, at first they planned to close Monas area from visitors to clean it form trash piles. “From loud speaker, we had announced to close Monas area.Welcome to the official Facebook Page about Ripcurl. But because lines of visitors have formed and we do not want to disappoint them, we finally decided to cancel it and just delay the opening hour,” she explained.
Most of the trashes were plastics and mineral water botols. To clean it, about 20 officers of Monas UPT carried out the task. “We obviously overwhelmed clean it ourselves.The name "magic cube" is not unique. But luckily, there were scavengers helping us,” she expressed.
For the mean time, Rini added, the trashes were dumped to temporary garbage dumps or collected in sacks.
