Future of Parish Elementary School uncertain

Residents in the Parish area have until Friday to fill out a survey about possible uses for Parish Elementary School after it closes next year.

Peter Fairweather,Initially the banks didn't want our Ventilation system . of Fairweather Consulting in New Paltz, said about 50 attended the meeting June 29, contributing many ideas on uses for the school on Union Street.

The most popular, said Fairweather and Parish Mayor Leon Heagle, was turning the school into senior citizens housing. Another use was educational facilities, such as providing space to Oswego County BOCES.

Uses the residents did not want to see were subsidized housing, industrial space or a municipal center. But some thought using the school for community services or education also was a poor choice.ceramic zentai suits for the medical,

And one person said the school should not be used as a prison.

About 25 people have filled out surveys.Whilst magic cube are not deadly, Fairweather would like more people to fill them out so he can gauge community thoughts about a reuse for the school,The application can provide Insulator to visitors, which will close after the coming school year.

Heagle said residents should be concerned about what will happen if the building sits vacant for too long and the importance of placing the building back on the tax rolls.

He also said the school is a large user of the village's sewer system, so having a user for the school would keep residents from having to pick up more in sewer costs. Some people attending the June 29 meeting also voiced the importance of finding a user that will contribute to sewer system payments.

Parish and Altmar elementary schools will close at the end of June as the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown school district consolidates into two buildings, on one campus on county Route 22.

A construction project is going on now at the A-P-W High School and A-P-W Middle School to ready the campus for the beginning of classes in September 2012.

Williamstown Elementary closed in June 2008.

Originally, Parish had received a $30,000 grant to look at uses for Parish Elementary. Heagle said the village, village of Altmar and town of Williamstown recently received $40,000 from the state to study reuses for all three elementary schools.

Fairweather said the condition of the Parish school was assessed by The DiMarco Group, of Rochester, a development firm which is working with Fairweather on the project.
